Drawing and painting were my first artistic endeavors. I started taking drawing lessons from Ann Morehead in 1973 or so. She was a wonderful teacher with a house full of interesting things to draw; dried fruits and plants, dried toads, insects and butterflies, art nouveau and Bauhaus pieces, elaborate tableware, and lots and lots of books with wonderful pictures. I later attended Barbara Jordan Technical School (long story) where I took Commercial Art and then a year or so at the Houston High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) until I dropped out of high school. I never took another art class.

I painted and drew regularly until ~1986 when I finished the last complete painting before 2004(it was presented as a wedding present to an old friend who says he still has it). I did start a piece in '95 or '96 that I worked on for a few years before tossing it. As to why I stopped, I'm not sure, but it appears that I stopped right about the time that I began attending community college (in Austin) in order to transfer to UT where I got my degree in Chemistry. 1994 is when I graduated and ended a 7 year relationship, so perhaps I finally found time again. I do love it.

There are 9 pieces, as well as the flags I made for the Air America bumper sticker contest, finished now with others constantly in the works. Go to the Thumbnails or Flags to see. And contact me at kw@kevarts.com with questions or comments. All paintings are oil on canvas unless otherwise noted. I have done my best to get good digital images, but they are still poor excuses for the real things, so let me know if you would like to see them. Click on the paintings for a larger view. And, of course, they are all for sale.
